Johna started working with us when she was a Junior at Moorefield High. She had a passion for baking but that wasn’t her career plan, just yet. In fact, when she first started with us she was interested in pursuing Forensic Science. After working in our bakery under Head Baker Jackie for about a year, Johna realized her dream was to become a Pastry Chef and open her own bakery!
Mentor Jackie shares, “I remember Johna doing the department rotation. She was a real sport working on the farm and in the market, but when she hit the bakery, her eyes would shine. She wanted to try making everything, and nothing was complicated. It simply came naturally. Decorating became her true passion. She was my go-to person when it came to decorating our sugar cookies. Johna is a sweet and kind soul, always ready to start working with every hair in place, never tired, just full of energy and enthusiasm for baking. With her artistic ability and a desire to be a Pastry Chef, she will do just that with her patience and calmness.”
Johna wanted to personally let you all know, “I am excited to be finishing my degree in Baking and Pastry Arts at Pierpont Community and Technical College in May. Throughout my time in college, I have been recognized on the Dean’s List and completed two internships. After graduation, I plan on gaining further experience in the baking industry.

Thank you to the Wardensville Garden Market and all of the donors for helping me realize my goal of becoming a pastry chef and allowing me to gain valuable knowledge and skills before I even began my studies.”
With your support, we have awarded Johna $8,000 dollars from our scholarship fund.
